American Bad Debt Problems

It is quite common knowledge that Americans run up huge debt which can easily be attributed to the fact that they need to have the best clothes to wear and also to drive the fanciest automobiles though without any other reason than just because it makes them feel better. In fact, if you go by figures related to this problem you would find that just fewer than half of all Americans (so, it is believed) have some form of bad debt including those related to the use of their credit cards.

Good Or Bad Debt

However, that is not to say that all forms of debt are undesirable or even unnecessary because certain debts such as student loan repayments as well as mortgages are in fact quite desirable since they give you value for your money because becoming better educated will help you in life and so too will owning a new home.

Still, it is really credit card debt that is the major problem because it means having to pay unnecessarily high interest rates without getting value for the money you spend in servicing your outstanding. What’s more, increasing numbers of Americans have to live from one paycheck to the next and thus don’t have the resources to save for a rainy day or even for retirement and in fact may even be living beyond their true financial means.

A major reason why Americans live in debt is that their economy promotes this way of living since the American economy thrives only on economic growth which is the key to the well being of America and though this economic growth means more as well as better jobs with greater numbers of the American population being gainfully employed and thus earning more money it also means having to spend more. Yes, it also actually presupposes that Americans must buy more things and the amount of this money spent by Americans in buying these things has a lot to do with credit card purchases.

Thus, the recipe is already in place for Americans to overspend, and because by and large they do not plan their finances too well will easily getting into debt all because they simply cannot curtail their spending habit. However, if they learn how to make a personal budget for them and then to stick to it they can easily become debt-free and by also realizing that it is also beneficial for them to stay out of debt, they need to practice thrift as much as possible and that by foregoing luxuries as well as vacations, and instead using the money saved in order to pay off their debt, they can live life without any financial worries.
